DCI 2009: Santa Clara Vanguard

I’m attending DCI orlando this saturday, and plan to do the same video project stuff I did last year. As a DCI alum, these sorts of events are exciting in a very unique way. Imagine if you played a sport that only 10% of the population played, and you played it at the highest, most competitive level. You did it all year, and it was apart of your identity. No one really knows about the sport/competitions unless they played it, and you can only play until your 21 years old. For every year after, the only connection to that part of your life is visiting the one competition that comes through every year. That begins to explain how I feel about DCI.

Needless to say I’m excited. I am meeting a friend in Crossmen for the first time in person, plus I like posting the vids and seeing old marching buddies. One of my favorite corps is the Santa Clara Vanguard, seen here. This first video represents what I love most about DCI. A corps in some random field in the middle of no where, practicing their show, trying to get better. Everyday is a new random field, every day the same goal.

This second one is great. There is a trumpet tick about halfway through and the tech gets visually pissed off.  That’s what I love about this activity; no mistakes, be perfect…and that people get that into getting it right…
